Egyptian Society for Chiropractic

History of the profession:

In 1982, a group of chiropractic doctors visited Cairo based on coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Health Insurance Authority. Dr. Talaat Ezzedine – orthopedic consultant – had an effective role in the success of this step in coordination with Life University in the United States, established in 1974, which later granted him an honorary doctorate degree. This visit ended after a short period, despite the positive results it achieved in treating patients and improving their health level.

However, the enthusiasm for introducing this specialty continued and the first doctor in this period was sent to the United States to study at the Life College of Chiropractic (Life Fame University) in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Medhat Al-Attar was the first doctor sent on a Life College scholarship. After graduating, he faced the difficulty of obtaining a license to work in Egypt, so he cooperated with Dr. Dam Williams, the founder and president of the university, to establish a training program in Egypt. At the same time, there was a need to send new doctors.

Dr. Hussein Al-Sanjak was the second physician in the first group of the PLIF study. But even after his graduation, there was no change that encouraged him to return to Egypt. Together, the two doctors made a great effort to convince the Egyptian administration. At the same time, Life University established the Life program around the world to spread the profession and appointed Dr. Medhat Al-Attar as its director. The two doctors took turns visiting Cairo to discuss terms of cooperation.

In addition, Dr. Medhat Al-Attar founded the Al-Maria Chiropractic Association in the United States. In 1990, Ain Shams University signed a contract of understanding with Life University. The need arose once again to send a new doctor to return to Egypt after graduation to practice at home and follow up on efforts locally.

At this time, Dr. Hani Al-Bibani was preparing to discover this field. He graduated from Life University in 1994 and was encouraged by the research project at Ain Shams University. He returned to Cairo and founded the first chiropractic clinic in the Heliopolis suburb in 1997.

The clinical research project was still ongoing under the supervision of Dr. Rod Handley. Between 1990 and 1997, many Egyptians joined Life and similar American universities, and many of them graduated and are now working in states and countries around the world.

Among them, Dr. Omar Al-Sangak returned to Cairo in 2002 and Dr. Ahmed Farghal in 2003.

Dr. Hani Al-Bibani worked throughout this period to legislate the profession. But he is faced with many difficulties, including routine and opposition from some specialties related to spine treatment. But on the other hand, Jahda received support from his patients and several medical figures. As a result of these difficulties and the weak influence of the American Association being outside the country, he decided to establish the Egyptian Chiropractic Society in Cairo.

Egyptian Chiropractic Society (Egyptian Spine Federation – currently under establishment):

The goal of the Egyptian Chiropractic Society is to bring together chiropractic doctors around the world in one group in Egypt. Based on the practical experience of the association’s founders, organizing the profession must go through certain steps.

The first step is to obtain the approval of the Supreme Council of Universities for the specialization, and he obtained it individually, despite the existence of approval similar to that recommendation in the 1980s.

The second step is the approval of the Ministry of Health, through its public and private committees, to introduce the specialty. Due to the lack of knowledge of the members of these committees about chiropractic, in addition to personal reasons related to avoiding competition within the medical field, the doctor’s request stopped at this step.

Since the previous reasons are valid, Egyptian law gives the right to make legal claims against defects in government performance. Therefore, gathering a large number of members in one association supports the purpose of the association. The years passed quickly and many Egyptians graduated from universities around the world, gained experience and were trying hard to find a way to work in Egypt.

The Egyptian Society of Chirobractics is working to achieve this requirement with the participation of the International Union of Chirobractics, Toronto – Canada, a member of the World Health Organization, and supports the Egyptian Society of Chirobractics (a member of the Union), as a legal representative of the profession in Egypt.
